Chris is a former child actor from the ‘50s and ‘60s, appearing in over 30 feature films, countless TV and radio productions and also on the West End stage.
At the age of 18, while still an actor, he joined ‘Motoring News’ as a junior reporter and by the age of 21 had set up his own semi-works Formula 2 motor racing team which won the 1971 Pau Grand Prix in France. He remains the youngest ever team owner to have won a Grand Prix.
Chris then became Sports Editor for ‘Autosport’ magazine before joining the Toleman Formula 1 Grand Prix team in 1980, handling their PR and sponsorship programmes. When the team was sold to Benetton in 1985, Chris joined the Virgin Group and ran both of Richard Branson’s record-breaking transatlantic powerboat projects as well as the first crossing of theNorth Atlanticby hot air balloon.
He then looked after the Q8 (Kuwait) Petroleum’s pan-European interests in motorsport, and thereafter Mobil’s multi-million pound sponsorship of the Ford World Rally Championship team before moving into big boat sailing and theAmerica’s Cup in the mid-1990s. World offshore powerboat racing was his next venture, initially as a UIM series promoter between 2000 and 2005 and then as a successful team owner winning the 2007 UIM Powerboat P1 World Championship. More recently, Chris has helped a number of youngsters develop their skills in karting and has been exploring a number of motor racing ventures with his long time friend and former Ferrari and McLaren Grand Prix driver Stefan Johansson.
